Influential midfielder Mark Wheeler was stranded on his way back from London with car troubles so the away team managed to borrow a Trojan substitute, who although he has played at a high level he is now in his eighties and therefore not quite as mobile as Mark.
Right from the start Portsmouth worked their socks off and pressed Trojans at every opportunity so it was no surprise that Tim Schofield opened the scoring after 10 minutes following good build up play from Dave Simmons and Karl Young. Although Trojans levelled a few minutes later Portsmouth's pressure resulted in further goals from John Pratt and Schofield before the break.
Colin Metcalfe and Mark Wilson’s partnership at the heart of the defence foiled many a Trojans attack but with a few injuries and some tired bodies Portsmouth had to shuffle positions in the second half. Trojans also upped their performance in the second half with some good interplay and clinical finishing from short corners came back from 3 - 2 down at the break to achieve a somewhat flattering 7 - 3 win.
Keeper Chris Lawrence had a very good game again and produced some outstanding reaction saves earning him the Man of the Match accolade.
