Before boarding the HMS Titanic with a face like thunder and the other 10 members, but as soon as we approached the island smiles broke through as the rain stopped. After a round of hot chocolate with Professor Trelawney we make it to Hallowed grounds of Smallbrook Stadium. Where we waited and waited and waited! And we're denied entry from a choccy frog. We needed our armband considering half of the pitch looked submerged.
But we decided that snorkels and goggles were more fitting for the game so popped to the beach shop! We got match ready in the carpark (due to Jan taking up the back seats of the car) with a range of 00s hits before our on pitch action.
We warmed up with the agility of fish, already understanding that it might be a lopsided game. The game became a disco as man of the match Kirsty Harley saved balls left right and centre with her dance moves. By half time the sweets boosted our energy levels as we managed to keep the goals to single fingers and the rain at bay. The smell of curry was the only thing that helped us find our way to the cricket club as team local and previous islander aka donkey Michelle Hughes (GPS signals lost/ lost the plot) sent us the wrong way. More time spent waiting, traveling than playing!
The game saw IOW hide 9 goals and we ended 9-0. Next week we are looking forward to being back to our darks as whiter than white is blinding.
