Portsmouth bounced back from last week's defeat to secure the league title with an emphatic win.

A great performance against a strong Winchester opposition and well done to everyone involved!

Portsmouth made no mistake, recording a 3-0 victory against Winchester to move clear of Romsey and claim the South Hants Summer League Division 3 title.

The title was earned thanks to consistent performances with 8 wins out of 10 games. A feat made all the more impressive considering the recent merger meant lots of new faces, and considerable squad rotation to allow everyone to get some game time.

Mens team manager, Sarah Hellyer praised her players: "A massive thanks from myself and Bryan and well done to all the players who contributed to us winning the league. It was great to see so many players ranging from the junior club to some new faces from the merger."

Club chairman Ed Smyth saw the win as a sign of things to come: "This success is testament to the willingness of our players to forge a great future for our club. I look forward to many more league triumphs for Portsmouth."

The women's team suffered a 7-3 defeat in their final game. Despite the mixed bag of results, Womens captain Emily Crowcroft saw plenty of positives: "It’s been a fantastic summer of hockey, seeing old players return and new players join us. It’s been great to see many players improve week on week, and the enthusiasm and laughter had by all on the pitch have made Summer league a joy to participate in."

For the final words of thanks, Ed Smyth perhaps said it best as he recognised the volunteers that made it possible: "Thanks to the umpires and organisers, without whom we wouldn't have been able to play these games. Superb efforts all round."
