Portsmouth Pumas faced a tough assignment against a high flying Haslemere side in the last league game before the Xmas break.
Pumas made started well with good structure and continuing to work together as a unit. We created some excellent chances which were not put away (Tomsi's first touch after coming on as sub comes to mind) Haslemere started to get in the game around our D & unfortunately scored both of their only real attempts on goal the second from a short corner.
However going into half time the team still felt like we were producing some good hockey whilst being tight at the back.
Half Time 0-2 to Haslemere
Sammy gave his classic "the next goal will win the game" speech which Pumas took into the 2nd half with great determination.
Sammy scored a well worked short corner routine and Liam then added a second with a reverse into the far corner to level the scoring.
Pete W completed the comeback after doing a one-two with Jim P down the right who duly found him(Pete) in space and he calmly slotted home. (Yep it didn't hit his foot!!)
Phinn made a couple of good saves when we needed him to but it was the Pumas who were looking the more likely to add to their goal tally and overall when the whistle went it was a well deserved win and good team performance against a strong side working as a unit from the defense through to the forwards.
MOM - Liam for his display in midfield
DOD - With over 80% of the votes DOD is Phinn for his outburst & getting the hump at the half time team talk and also taking most of his goalkeeping gear off for the pre match huddle!
Thanks to Chris & Tilly for umpiring & also not sending anyone off, this enabled us to manage the game & see it out for what felt like an important win!
Merry Xmas Everyone
