The match was defined by the team's aggressive flowing passing hockey in its front foot attacking structure, and a series of frantic, self-inflicted defensive wounds and individual blunders.

First Half: Brilliance, Blunders, and Discipline Lapses (2-0)

Portsmouth’s opening was excellent. The first 25 minutes saw the team play structured, controlled hockey. The team's commitment to attack paid off in the 11th minute with the opening goal, a free-flowing, full-team move finished by Harry Hellyer.

Portsmouth controlled the pace of the game for this first period creating a series of good chances to increase the lead, the drama peaked when Adam Riley somehow missed the goal gaping from only a few yards out!

As the team continue to adapt to this high-risk approach some individual errors are inevitable: Sam Love conceded a penalty corner with a needless dribble trying to exit his own D; Dan Witcher made an opportunistic decision to dribble into three opposition players, and required to be bailed out a heroic, but vicious, stick tackle from veteran Jon Farmer conceding yet another corner.

Tim Mallett also contrived to turn control in to an oppo attacking opportunity when his pass was cut out by Trojans CF. The same CF had the ball in the goal only a couple of minutes later when Witcher was again turned over, only for the umpire to rule it out for a foul in the build up on Jon Veck - fortunately his appealing instead of recovering paid off!

Despite the chaos, Hellyer scored his second in the 30th minute to make it two-nil, capitalising on a sharp counter-attack.

Second Half: Tactical Turmoil and Recovery (2-1)

The tactical battle intensified immediately. Now playing from the opposite end of the pitch, away from the dugout, it was visibly harder for Coach Tim to get his messages onto the pitch.

Unfortunately, too much influence from the "frightened cloggers at FB" saw the team drop into a flat back four, immediately countering the coach’s instructions and conceding a lot of pressure for the first 15 minutes.

To counter the instability, the team attempted an on-field adjustment, moving Veck to LHB to steady the ship. This move backfired immediately: Veck’s direct opponent beat him immediately on the inside, gaining entry into the D receiving a crossed pass and sliding it under the hapless GK - Trojans goal in the 48th minute, cutting the deficit to 2-1. In a moment that summed up the team's defensive disunity, blame was thrown around to others. TBF it was a hell of a good goal, the kid had talent.

Despite the goal, Portsmouth managed to steady the ship as the coach influenced the game again, successfully communicating the need to change the system back to the organised pressure they had utilised earlier. Going back to the work that they’d done so well in the first half saw the team regain control, allowing them to ride out the last 20 minutes with no real scares. In the dying minutes Sam Love managed to find a oppo player to collide with to achieve his signature 'leave the pitch injured moment' for the 3rd consecutive week. A week without an injury to Love is a thing of fairy tales.

Man of the Match: Harry Hellyer, whose clinical brace proved the ultimate difference in the match.
DoD - Timmy Mallett - A pass to a CF, not much else. He'll be auditioning for the sequel to 'The Fall Guy' as he's taken one here after some other very dubious moment for his team mates.

Tim’s Special Mentions:
Elliot Ferrett was undeniably the Best Player on the Pitch. His superb display of control of the game governed the tempo throughout the entire match, ensuring the team was able to transition effectively between defense and attack.

Harry Hellyer earned a double special mention for his decisive performance. His pace, power, and clinical finishing in front of goal were the direct cause of the victory, scoring both of Portsmouth’s goals.

Alfie Hall's pacing behind the defence caused the opposition a threat all afternoon. His intelligent runs stretched the back line, creating crucial space for the midfield and forward unit.

Seb Martins dribbling was a constant threat throughout, and he looked like he might score a goal every time he touched the ball, culminating in two or three shots on target that tested the Trojan keeper.

Caleb Rowland was a constant threat to the opposition due to his powerful running. His relentless pace and drive provided essential forward momentum and stretched the Trojan defence.

Louis Gaskin put in a solid performance in the forward line, consistently contributing to the team's attack and playing his part in maintaining pressure on the opposition's defence.

Stan Marlow (Captain) led by example throughout the match and gave an excellent overall performance. His on-field leadership was crucial in navigating the periods of chaos and helping to restore discipline.

Adam Riley was noted for his otherwise disciplined approach to the game, ensuring the team maintained its shape and kept the opposition honest across the midfield line throughout the match.

Jon Farmer was a pillar of strength, remaining solid at Center back throughout the game. His disciplined performance and crucial defensive tackles were essential in containing the Trojan attack.

John Arnell deserves immense credit for his contribution as a solid goalkeeper throughout the entire game. His composed presence and key saves ensured the lead, despite the chaos unfolding ahead of him.

Sam Love is recognised for growing into his role and consistently offering great outlets in both the left and right halfback positions throughout the match, providing essential width and link-up play.

Dan Witcher deserves credit for his work ethic; despite an unfortunate defensive lapse in the first half, he contributed strongly to the team's forward pressure and general link-up play throughout the match.

Jon Veck (JV) needs to be addressed for his contribution to the team's defensive disunity. While he was tasked with stabilising the defence, the immediate mistake that led to the Trojan goal, followed by blaming every other defender, highlights that he needs to talk much, much less and focus on his own responsibilities on the pitch.
