Once the extra long journey was over, it was time for Portsmouth to bring their winning form to the farmers land of Gillingham.
A strong start saw Pompey put Gillingham on the back foot with strong attacking moves and some solo runs. One of those solo runs saw Ben Lewis twirl ,like a ballerina between 3 defenders where he found the space to utilise a reverse tomahawk to slot past the keeper. The sound of the backboard reverberating around the nearby fields sending the cows and horses into wild celebrations.
Portsmouth 1-0 Gillingham
Many more chances came for Portsmouth as they should’ve seen themselves go 3/4 goals up. One of the missed chances, was from Chris Bollom, who wound up his flagpole length arms and swung for a strike of his back foot that found itself bobble a few metres after the striker topped the ball.
Gillingham realised how lucky they were that Portsmouth hadn’t scored more and tried to get themself back into the game with a counter attack although they didn’t earn themselves a goal. They did see the Pompey skipper Chris Butler earn himself a green card. Something he has managed 2 weeks in a row!
Lanky Luke Parsons kept Pompey in the game with some brilliant charging runs and silky skills creating opportunities and winning fouls high up the field for the seaside club. Unfortunately, Portsmouth couldn’t make the lead more comfortable before the halftime whistle came.

The start of the second half saw some rough tackles come flying in, as the Gillingham side were annoyed.
With frustrations rising, TomBos pulled out some of his magical skills turning their players inside and out and sometimes even went back for seconds.
Some more harsh tackles later saw a crude tackle against Lewis. In his frustrations, Ben put a hand on the opposition players back, causing the home crowd to erupt. The eruption forced the umpires hand as he took the yellow card out of his pocket and Lewis saw five minutes on the sideline.
With Portsmouth down to 10, Gillingham scuffed a ball across the ‘D’ to the back post, leaving Archie in No man’s Land. A tap in saw the score go level.
Portsmouth 1-1 Gillingham
This equaliser put Portsmouth under the kosh. The risking pressure caused Haidyn Farmer to mindlessly dribble the ball of the side of the pitch. Usually Haidyn is an expert dribbler. Dribbling past 2 or 3 players or even dribbling on his pre match Big Mac.
A superb ball cut through the Gillingham backline, and Will Duffy was through 1vs1 with the keeper until a defender smashed into the back of him. Gifting Portsmouth a penalty flick, and a man advantage as a yellow card was awarded to the same defender. The Gillingham captain had a few words for the umpire subsequently earning a second card for the farmers.
The Portsmouth forward Kempy stood up and slotted the penalty flick to the right side of the goal while the keeper dove the complete wrong way.
Portsmouth 2-1 Gillingham
In a following attack, Pompey had a short corner. In a moment of disaster the ball was improperly stopped by Butler and Bollom, who was supposed to be backing up, ran away in complete panic.
A solid defensive performance by the two Pete’s, Hayward and Wiles gave Portsmouth the backbone they needed to keep pushing forward. Another sly pass put Duffy through once again, where he took the ball out to the left and proceeded to top the ball with a reverse back stick.
Portsmouth 3-1 Gillingham
In the closing moments of the game Kempy was bounding forward taking down an aerial from Matty Hayward, the boulder, then cut inside to the right and oppositely slipped the ball left to Ryan Rochester who made the overlapping through on goal. TomBos and Wally came flying through on goal. With Wally getting the final touch to send the ball into the back of the goal.
Portsmouth 4-1 Gillingham
Following the game, everyone awaited fines from the embarrassingly ginger Chesh, ending the day good day out with some laughs and a few pints.
MoM - Kempy for some brilliant attacking causing danger and creating chances
DoD - Will for a back stick goal, passing the ball into Wally’s ass, who was on all fours after he slipped over.
