Portsmouth visitors started brightly and were rewarded for their early pressure when Bryan Hodges fired home from the top of the D to give Portsmouth a 1–0 lead. However, Chichester responded well, capitalising on two quick chances to turn the game around and go into halftime 2–1 ahead.
The hosts extended their advantage early in the second half, making it 3–1, but Portsmouth refused to give up.
Hodges grabbed his second goal of the game from a well-worked short corner routine with ten minutes remaining, setting up a tense finish as Portsmouth pushed for an equaliser.
Despite their late pressure, Chichester restored their two-goal cushion with a fourth just a few minutes from time. Portsmouth kept fighting until the final whistle, and Tom Hughes added a third for Portsmouth with the last play of the match to make it 4–3, but it was too late to rescue a point.
A spirited performance from the Men’s 5s, who will take plenty of positives from their determination heading into their next fixture.
