The game started as a strongly skilful game. There was great communication coming from the Portsmouth side as they played stylish hockey, passing the ball around to one another and pushing it up the pitch. Towards the end of the first half, Petersfield pressed the Portsmouth goal and dragged the defensive line to the far right and opened a space for a goal in the far back corner.

As the second half began, Portsmouth pressured Petersfield with a strong push and managed to claim a short corner. When the ball was injected to Matty Hayward, he hit the ball with a hard strike into the bottom corner of the goal evening out the score, 1 - 1.
With 10 minutes left, Portsmouth performed a quick start as the midfielders and forwards pushed the ball up the pitch with an attempt for goal.
This resulted with the ball getting stopped and passed down the pitch into Portsmouth's 25. As a Petersfield player drove the baseline, Haidyn Farmer blocked him with his stick resulting in the ball going out, to which the umpires called it as a short corner. As the ball was injected, the stopping Petersfield player played it off to the right slip in which he chipped it into the net and the play was called as a successful goal.
