The match started with a good 15 minutes of play where both teams played to a high intensity with even possession and chances in the D. Fleet were however first to break the deadlock with the ball coming back into the D following a successful short corner defence.
Fleet then scored a follow up just before halftime with score in their favour 2-0.
Portsmouth came back out in the second half aiming to return to the intensity of the start. However a Fleet deflection on goal took another deflection in the air to take it out of Steven Rowland’s (GK) path and ended high in the net. Portsmouth then reacted with a strong counterattack with Paul Barnes flicking a ball through the D for Tom Hughes to put away to get Portsmouth on the score sheet (3-1). Intensity was then kept high with Portsmouth pressing and causing difficulties for the Fleet back line. However a missed timed tackle earned James Payne a yellow card. With a man down a final attack by Fleet, with a near stop on the line by Tristan Barnes, meant the game ended 4-1. Man of the match was awarded to Theo Simpson.
