It meant they
Portsmouth had the best of the game but they didn't impose themselves like they had done in recent weeks. Stu Avery scored midway through the first half with a dribble from the left side of the pitch to the top of the circle followed by a clinical finish in the corner of the goal.
However the second goal wasn't forthcoming. Good situations and half chances were wasted and a couple of gilt edged opportunities from corners were missed.
Then with 10 minutes to go Gillingham got a corner of their own and with a well worked routine got their equaliser. Portsmouth huffed and puffed in the last 10 minutes but no winner materialised.
However the result shouldn't take away from a hugely successful season for the first team. The team were managed with style and skill by coach Chris Wimshurst, the older players continued to prove their worth but most importantly the younger generation progressed marvelously to hint at an exciting future for the club.
