PHC 4 - 3 Sailsbury

Portsmouth U14 boys found it difficult to find their rhythm against a strong Salisbury team. But persistence down the left, and a good cross into the D allowed Dylan Houghton to slot home Portsmouth’s first. Despite some excellent saves from the Salisbury keeper a second soon followed as Caleb Rowlands chipped the keeper. As the first half drew to a close Salisbury found the back of the net with a well worked passing move. Half time 2:1 to Portsmouth. After a team talk from the coaches Portsmouth stepped up a gear in the second half. Moving the ball well, closing down the opposition and forcing mistakes. With the forwards pressing high Sam Hargreaves found space at the top of D and beat the keeper with a top corner shot. Portsmouth moved the ball well and continued to press high working the Salisbury defence and keeper hard. Salisbury fought back, winning a short. Caleb Rowlands running no.1 denied the first shot, but the ball when high and Salisbury hit it in the air to make it 3:2. Portsmouth attacked in numbers, Ryan Rochester followed up a rebounded shot to calmly beat the keeper who was unable to recover from the initial save. 4:2. Salisbury won another short with only a few minutes left to play, they slipped the ball left and scored with a slap shot. Final score 4:3 to Portsmouth
