Best performance saved for Mothers Day

The U10s festival followed the U8s where Ryan, Luke and Ellis stayed on in the sunshine to show their mums what Mothers day is all about - eating cakes and watching hockey.

City again had 2 teams in the festival with Ian Cheshire taking one team and Ivan Boswell taking the other.

Overall it was a superb performance from both teams. The passing, ball pace and hand skills were on all display. Several comments were made by parents , umpires and coaches about how well they passed the ball and moved with it, something which they have all worked hard on during training.

For COP1 team, under Ian Cheshire, the results ended up being 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 unlucky loss. The loss could have been so much different when 3 clear cut chances which were well saved by the Gosport keeper.

They started well in all games, with Ryan continuing his scoring form , a debutante in Brooklyn Grindley and with everyone playing in various positions to understand more of the game.

Cleo continued her excellent form throughout this year by playing in midfield and defence. A great tackler, strong and developing into a real playmaker. Excellent ball pace and really looks comfortable on the ball, running with it, showing her skills and awareness. A Rio Ferdinand in the making.

Harry managed to play in 3 positions today, defence, midfield and attack. We know he can defend, he can see a pass and today he worked really hard on the ball and taking players on. Several times he pulled out superb pieces of skills down the left and right, beating players with ease and setting up a few goals (albeit one with his foot as all good hockey players do!). A Team player ala Steve Stone

Tilly Is a terrier in defence. The best technique in terms of defending with a mean flat stick and reverse stick tackle. Quick on the ball and smiles at everything. Working on her midfield workrate and with her skills and pace she will be devastating. I think a Gareth Bale flying winger is in the making.

Daniel Whitcher is a rock of a player. Big , strong, with passing and ball pace adults would be proud off. Always wants to do his absolute best in the game and for his team. Worked hard on trying things that we practice at training, moving the ball and using his hand skills, playing in various positions in defined and midfield. Ronald Koeman passing matched with a Jaap Stam defensive beast. Won my player of the festival for trying his absolute best, keeping that ball pace high and just stops everything that comes to him.

Daniel Sinnott is All action. Action Man, Han Solo, Thor, Captain America would all look on in awe. This season he has improved his already high quality defensive and tackling work, and now taking players on with powerful running at angles and moving the ball into space. A driving force in midfield. Roy Keane, Bryan Robson , Patrick Viera and the cultured class of Glenn Hoddle.

Ryan again scored a truck load of goals and showing that even though he is still currently U8, he has quality to play up a level. Quick, skill-full , gets stuck in and not afraid of a tackle. Seeing Ryan running at full pelt with the ball, direct and powerful, really is a sight to behold. We get that angled running and 3d skills i do think he will be pretty much unplayable. Gary Lineker in terms of goal threat and positioning with a Mark Hughes attitude and bravery.

Amelia was also played in multiple positions, defence midfield and attack. She has come on so much this year and her hand skills and technique are up there with the best in the group. Always happy and just wants to play. Can see a pass, good ball pace and some lovely skills and touches, my Kevin De Bruyne and for the older reference, Gordon Strachan.

Brooklyn player her very first festival and was understandably a little nervous. She wasn't helped initially by her coach (sorry) forgot to bring her a stick, however Sophie Clay stepped to lend her stick and turned out a blessing. With the smaller stick, Brooklyn was closer to the ball and her hockey technique was excellent. Her passing was excellent, high ball pace and straight to her teammates stick. A superb performance and was very close in getting my player of the festival. For her calmness and excellent passing, a Jan Molby or Ray Wilkins.

A excellent way to finish the festival season and I think some of the best performances.
