Portsmouth's Stuart Avery narrowly missed out on gold with England O45s as Scotland score last minute goal.

Following a successful group stage of the Masters European Championships in Rotterdam, England found themselves in the medal pool with Germany and Scotland.

England started well with a 5-4 victory over the Germans, and with the Germans beating Scotland 2-1, England knew a draw or better in the final game would guarantee gold.

Scotland got an early goal to put the pressure on England, and when they added a second from a penalty corner in the 55th you could have been forgiven for thinking it was game over.

England had other ideas, and responded with a penalty corner goal of their own a minute later. At 2-1, England were actually in joint first position with Germany thanks to goals scored, with goal difference level.

Scotland snatched gold from the hands of both teams as they scored a third in the 59th minute to leapfrog into gold, and push England into 3rd.

Avery and England were understandably dissapointed, but 3rd place in Europe is still something to be very proud of, and we can't wait to see Stu back at training, showing off his medal.
