The 3’s wanted to continue how they played against Alton the previous week but this time with a win!

Saw a few changes in the team, with ‘leave it’ Ed being called up to the 1’s due to injury, our superstar and top goal scoring striker (self proclaimed) Chris Stone taken out by the allusive sniper in Germany meaning the 3’s had increased their chances of winning without the “Star man” and not having to listen to some pretty poor taste in music. This meant the man, the myth the legend Rufus Millar would get the call up and the play making engine Jai Ramchandani join a strong 3’s team.

Portsmouth started the game slowly, building play, putting the feelers out like a bachelor on the prowl on a Saturday night. Fareham posing early threats with their quick counter attacking style, this worked for them with them opening the scoring early on. Portsmouth received the call and responded with great passing and switching of the play and dangerous attacking.

Took Portsmouth their 2nd penalty short to equalise. Dave Johns with a too hot to stop ejection resulting with the ball bobbling to the 25 yard line and being picked up by Jai, who like a gazelle sprinting across the Serengeti driving the ball around the outside of the D and passing the ball back to the top of the D where Alex “future top goal scorer” Williams stops the ball and drags the ball bottom corner of the goal. Great response from Portsmouth.

Portsmouth didn’t take their foot off the accelerator with a further 3 more goals coming from penalty shorts. All scored by our TOP GOAL SCORER, Alex williams. (I could go in to detail but short story, Williams banged in some good goals against a goalie who had only been playing a couple of weeks)

Half time saw the score at 4-1 to Portsmouth.

The usual inspiring half time talk from Dave with the wise Ivan Boswell, calming us down and reminding us to keep our composure and work rate up for the second half.

Second half saw some top notch attacking hockey from both sides…….mostly Portsmouth.

It didn’t take long into the second half for Portsmouth to extend their lead with some great play from Charlie Brazier and Jai. The ball found its self to half a Love, Tom who put the ball in the back of the goal, obviously helped by our physics wizard George “I’m Stoney” Gale. Who some how manipulated the ball from Tom Love’s stick towards his own for the most slightest of touches. Charlie Bos, Jai and George (Stoney 0.2) continued with their excellent running and skills keeping Fareham under pressure with the full support of a strong midfield and defence.

As the game progressed Portsmouth’s stamina started the drop with only one sub being passed around like the first slice of a loaf of bread. With the energy levels dropping, Fareham saw their chance to counter attack and catch Portsmouth on the break, resulting in Fareham clawing back 2 goals.

A few silly remarks and some tackling that makes my tackling look saintly from JP resulted in a free hit being turned into a short, how he didn’t get a card is beyond me. However the 3’s responded by creating an iron curtain much like soviet Russia and keeping out Fareham. One of Fareham’s players did us a solid by throwing a tantrum resulting in a card and having to go off... teary moment… Anyhow Portsmouth kept Fareham out controlling the ball and playing for time. With Charlie “slow motion” Brazier dribbling with the ball beating one Fareham guy continuous whilst giggling like a school girl. By this point the ball had hit his feet more times than the stick knocking the ball left to right. Full time was finally called on a very good and enjoyable game.

Man of the match was won by a landslide by Charlie Bos (although you could argue they meant the other Charlie) Bos having another fantastic performance, with Jai and Alex (who I m not sure if you heard is top goal scorer… not Stoney) being in strong contention if they hadn’t had to shoot off after the game.
DOD went to JP for giving the short with Gale coming second via rock, paper, scissor, Spock, lizard for trying to manipulate physics and taking the role of Stoney.
