Portsmouth fail to Win-chester

On a lovely October Saturday that featured some weather, the men's 3s looked to replicate last season's double over Winchester. Starting with a surprising level of motivation some early attacks saw Portsmouth vaguely threatening the opposition D and goal. During this time, disaster was narrowly avoided when Chris Stone's long distance nemesis failed to hit his soap bubble strong ankles, however Chris still collapsed to the floor like a narcoleptic sloth.

After defensive heroics and a plethora of saves from Pompey, Winchester then opened up the cagey affair when a mishit ball bobbled through and around the purple defence leaving a tap in to take the lead.

Strong half time words once again failed to rouse the team from their first 35 stupor and the game became unwatchable. A brief highlight occurred when Winchester won a stroke, but even that was soporific - man of the match Ed Smyth's save was almost as dynamic as dick of the day Stone's earlier collapse.

Sadly the good times did not last as Winchester added a second from the 5th shot on a penalty corner and a third in the final 5.

To put the game to bed, Alex Williams finally converted a 69tg minute penalty corner to make the score 3-1. Unfortunately too little too late left Portsmouth still searching for their first points of the season.
