Porstmouth Vets' hard work enabled them to cruise to a commanding 5-1 win at home against an experienced Southampton side; with the official club photographer present to record moments of brilliance - thanks Alan.
Straight from the start Portsmouth took control of the game with their purposeful running and controlled passing but after missing a few chances it was Southampton who surprisingly took the lead with their first meaningful break.
Undaunted Portsmouth continued to attack and it was Man of the Match, Tim Schofield, who soon equalised following a quick move via the dominant midfield duo of Mark Wheeler and Karl Young. Schofield's stick skill and bursts of pace over 5-10 yards caused the Southampton defence problems all day long and he soon created and scored his second goal.
Young's excellent strike from the top of the D took Portsmouth to a well deserved 3-1 up at the break.
In the second half Portsmouth kept the pressure up and Schofield completed his hattrick from a well worked short corner. The returning hotshot John Pratt completed the scoring with five minutes remaining. The Southampton defence were tormented from start to finish with Portsmouth's speedy attacks and were probably relieved to have limited Portsmouth to five.
