Mens 4s Start League Campaign With a Win

Portsmouth Mens 4s started their league campaign with an impressive 3-0 victory away to Basingstoke 5. Portsmouth travelled with just a bare 11 team and it looked as though the visitors would be in for a long match as the home side dominated possession and created numerous chances within the first 15 minutes.

Portsmouth weathered the storm though and found themselves in front midway through the first half. A breakaway down the right-hand side saw Richard Higginson pick out Alan Duffy with a pinpoint pass, who then calmly converted to put Portsmouth 1-0 up. This shifted the tide as Portsmouth began to get a foothold of the game and were able to maintain their lead going into half time.

Portsmouth continued with their excellent game management after the break and were able to double their lead 15 minutes into the second half. A wayward short corner was picked up by Alfie Hall who drove into the D and struck an excellent reverse shot to make it 2-0.

Basingstoke had ample opportunities to get themselves back into the match throughout the second half, however solid performances from the Portsmouth defence and goalkeeper Rufus Millar prevented any chance of a comeback for the home side.

The victory was sealed five minutes from time when Alfie Hall followed up a brilliant run with a pass to Alan Duffy in the D, who cooly slotted the ball past the onrushing Basingstoke goalkeeper with his reverse to make the final score 3-0.
